Ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος Ντόναλντ Τραμπ δήλωσε ότι θα ήταν θετικός στο ενδεχόμενο κινεζικές αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίες να κατασκευάζουν αυτοκίνητα στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, παρά τις αντιδράσεις Αμερικανών νομοθετών και εκπροσώπων της εγχώριας αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίας. «Αν η Κίνα ήθελε να έρθει και να ανοίξει ένα εργοστάσιο για να κατασκευάζει τα δικά της αυτοκίνητα εδώ, θα ήμουν εντάξει με αυτό», ανέφερε ο Αμερικανός πρόεδρος σε συνέντευξή του στην εκπομπή «The Ingraham Angle» του Fox News. Ο Τραμπ επικαλέστηκε το παράδειγμα της Ιαπωνίας, σημειώνοντας ότι ιαπωνικές αυτοκινητοβιομηχανίες κατασκευάζουν οχήματα στις ΗΠΑ και απασχολούν Αμερικανούς εργαζομένους. «Η Ιαπωνία το κάνει, αλλά προσλαμβάνουν τους ανθρώπους μας. Το σημαντικό είναι ότι προσλαμβάνουν τους ανθρώπους μας», είπε χαρακτηριστικά. Ισραήλ-Λίβανος: Αναβολή για τον Οκτώβριο στις συνομιλίες της Ρώμης
Οι διπλωματικές συνομιλίες μεταξύ του Ισραήλ και του Λιβάνου, που ήταν προγραμματισμένο να πραγματοποιηθούν στη Ρώμη τον Σεπτέμβριο, αναβάλλονται για τον Οκτώβριο, σύμφωνα με αξιωματούχο του Στέιτ Ντιπάρτμεντ. Οι πρεσβευτές του Ισραήλ και του Λιβάνου στις ΗΠΑ αναμένεται να συναντηθούν την ερχόμενη εβδομάδα στην Ουάσιγκτον, προκειμένου να συζητήσουν τις τελευταίες εξελίξεις και την εφαρμογή της συμφωνίας που είχαν καταλήξει οι δύο πλευρές τον Ιούλιο. Ωστόσο, ο Αμερικανός αξιωματούχος διευκρίνισε ότι ο επόμενος επίσημος γύρος διαπραγματεύσεων θα πραγματοποιηθεί στη Ρώμη τον Οκτώβριο, αντί για τον Σεπτέμβριο, όπως είχε αρχικά προγραμματιστεί. Η συμφωνία αυτή «παραμένει ο μόνος βιώσιμος μηχανισμός για να αποκατασταθούν η εθνική κυριαρχία του Λιβάνου κι η ασφάλεια του Ισραήλ», επέμεινε χθες ο αξιωματούχος του υπουργείου Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ. Συνεχίζονται οι ισραηλινές επιχειρήσεις Η Χεζμπολάχ έχει απορρίψει επανειλημμένα τη συμφωνία και διαμηνύει πως δεν καταθέτει τα όπλα. Παρά την κατάπαυση του πυρός που εφαρμόζεται στη θεωρία από τον Ιούνιο, ο ισραηλινός στρατός συνεχίζει να διεξάγει αεροπορικά πλήγματα και χερσαίες επιχειρήσεις στον Λίβανο σποραδικά. Την Πέμπτη, εξαπέλυσε ευρείας κλίμακας βομβαρδισμούς εναντίον της Χεζμπολάχ, καταστρέφοντας μεταξύ άλλων υπόγειο συγκρότημα που φέρεται να χρησιμοποιούσε το κίνημα. Η έκρηξη ήταν ισχύος τέτοιας που το ινστιτούτο γεωλογικών μελετών των ΗΠΑ (USGS) κατέγραψε σεισμική δόνηση 4,1 βαθμών. Κατά τη διάρκεια του καλοκαιριού, οι κυβερνήσεις του Ισραήλ και του Λιβάνου διεξήγαγαν δυο κύκλους συνομιλιών στη Ρώμη υπό την αιγίδα της Ουάσινγκτον. Η διπλωματία των ΗΠΑ ανήγγειλε στα μέσα Αυγούστου τρίτο κύκλο, «στις αρχές Σεπτεμβρίου», επίσης στην πρωτεύουσα της Ιταλίας. Πηγή του Γαλλικού Πρακτορείου ενήμερη για τον φάκελο εξήγησε πως υπήρχε ζήτημα χρονοδιαγράμματος, ιδίως λόγω της Γενικής Συνέλευσης του ΟΗΕ στα τέλη του μήνα, που οδήγησε στην αναβολή αυτού του κύκλου.
